Instrument Rental Night set for Monday, May 19 at 6pm in the multi-purpose room. Come down and rent the instrument your child will start playing in 5th grade! Instruments are not delivered until August, unless they participate in the summer Music Rocks Camp! (see resources for information) You do not pay until the instrument is delivered in August. Students have begun having conferences with me about what they are interested in for next year. Parent meetings are just around the corner and are essential to joining the band. Be on the look out! If you do not attend a parent meeting prior to rental night, please arrive at 5:30pm in the band room on May 19 for information important to your child's band education at Sunset Ridge.
At Sunset Ridge, students in the 4th grade come to music 1-2 times per week from 11:15-12pm and will participate in a band exploratory class (often referred to as the music delivery model). This means that students will get the opportunity to actually play different instruments found in the concert band. This gives the students a chance to discover an instrument they like and are successful on. Everyone can be successful on at least one instrument!
Objectives for the year:
Symbol Recognition/Decoding Tone Production Mechanics
Rhythm Embouchure Instrument Care
Pitch Breathing Proper Positioning
Notes, Staves, Clef Characteristic Sounds
Sound Models - Throughout our studies, we will reference video and audio examples from a variety of artists. This allows the students to hear and see the instruments played correctly, with a characteristic tone. Some instruments will be modeled live for the students.
Sanitation Process
All mouthpieces will be washed with germicide for a minimum 30 minutes. They are rinsed in clear water for 10 minutes to remove germicide. Excess water is wiped/shaken off and then the mouthpiece is placed on a drying rack. Each student will have their own clarinet reed that they will be responsible for. Percussion sticks will be wiped weekly with alcohol wipes.
