All beginning band students need:
1. pencil 2. folder or 3-ring binder (with sheet protectors)
3. instrument playing and care materials (as listed below next to each instrument) 4. Wire music stand for home practicing
5. Traditions of Excellence Book 1 (red cover) 6. Band Shirt (some still available; new order will be placed if necessary)
Bring to class: your instrument and any instrument care supplies and music.

Students in the 5th grade have the option to join band. Learning to play an instrument can be extremely rewarding. Benefits of being in band include learning teamwork, multitasking, responsibility, discipline, and is simply fun!! Instruments offered include (necessary supplies listed next to each instrument):

All brass need the following supplies (brushes are instrument specific): Valve Oil; Slide Grease; Mouthpiece Brush; Valve Brush; Flexible Snake; Slide Cream and/or Slide Spray (trombone only)

How/Where do I get my student an instrument?
Instruments can be rented or a small monthly fee (varies by instrument). Instrument rental is an excellent idea, especially for the beginner student. Many stores offer repair services for rented instruments. This also allows flexibility should your child want to try a different instrument! Places to rent from include Allegro Music, Music & Arts, and Milano Music. Many of these companies do a rent to own program and offer interim instruments should your rental need repairs. Make sure to ask about these offers, as it differs with each place.
The school does have a limited amount of instruments available for free yearly rental. You must sign a contract upon borrowing the school instrument, agreeing to take care of the instrument and guaranteeing its replacement should it go missing. These instruments are VERY limited...
